Sedemac has been selected MIT Technology Review’s TR 35 2010 Young Innovators

Shashikant Suryanarayanan, 32, of SEDEMAC, has been selected one of the TR35 Young Innovators for 2010. SEDEMAC offers a unique solution to improve driving experience.

Utilization of tools from systems/control theory to realize high-impact mechatronic systems has been Shashikanth Suryanarayanan’s interest. A BTech student of IIT Madras, Chennai, and PhD from University of California, Berkeley, Suryanarayanan has developed many solutions that deliver improved efficiency, reduced emissions, improved power quality in engines, and other alternate energy services.

The by-wire systems, which replace traditional mechanical complexity with less complex and more versatile mechatronic solutions, are increasingly popular in the automotive industry. The steer-by-wire system developed by Suryanarayanan offers substantially improved driving experience, reduction of under-the-hood space constraints, and realization of the much improved vehicle control. “The defining feature of steer-by-wire is the absence of mechanical linkages between the driver’s hand wheel and the steered road-wheels,” explains Suryanarayanan.

The Indian edition of Technology Review has created the India TR35 list to acknowledge the outstanding innovators under the age of 35 from India. This list showcases individuals whose superb technical work holds great promise to shape the next decades. The 2010 class of India TR35 winners have all demonstrated either development of new technology or the creative application of existing technologies to solve problems from the shores of India. The value of the candidate’s work was assessed by the Jury members in a number of areas like the impact of work to the industry and society, ingenuity, timeliness, amongst other considerations. The Editorial board then arrived at the final list of winners.
