“Our focus is solving the Big Data challenge of improving application performance and availability in high-growth data environments by optimizing the database tier,” said Varun Singh, founder and chief executive officer of ScaleArc. “To be recognized by the industry as one of the ‘top 10 hot Big Data startups to watch’ highlights the fact that we are solving real-world pain points for our global customers.”
“The initial list of 42 Big Data startups was ridiculously strong, so to be included in the Top 10 is quite an accomplishment,” said Jeff Vance, a contributing writer for CIO.com and Editor-in-Chief of Startup50. “ScaleArc earned its high ranking based on a public vote of IT decision-makers, its long list of marquee customers, its solid VC funding, and a compelling product roadmap.”
To determine the Top 10 Hot Big Data Startups to Watch, nominees were solicited through the Story Source Newsletter, Twitter, and other channels, and more than 100 recommendations were received. Of these, a list of 42 nominees was compiled on Startup50.com. Readers were invited to vote for their favorites.
During this round of voting, more than 11,000 readers voted for their favorite Big Data startups. This vote was given a weight of 30 percent in determining the list of the Top 10 Hot Big Data Startups to Watch. Other factors used in determining the Top 10 included funding, the pedigree of the management team, and the viability of the startup’s roadmap.
Once the Top 10 were named, readers were invited to vote again to determine the final rankings. More than 4,000 readers voted in this round. As with the previous round of voting, although the vote tallies were heavily weighted in determining the final rankings, other criteria including the number of big-name customers, VC funding totals, the pedigree of the management team, and market positioning were considered to determine the final rankings.
