Asia Society Northern California (ASNC) will be celebrating the theme of “Education, Innovation and Leadership” at its Eighth Annual Dinner on May 5, 2011 in the Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco. In conjunction with Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, the dinner will celebrate those who have broken barriers within the fields of Business & Policy, Arts & Culture, and Education.
Dinner Chairs and ASNC Advisory Board Co-Chairmen Jack Wadsworth and Chong-Moon Lee are proud to announce the Society’s selection of honorees: Steve Chen, Co-founder of YouTube; Dr. Naren Gupta, Co-Founder & Managing Director of Nexus Venture Capital; and SF Hep B Free.
Arts & Culture Honoree: Steve Chen
Steve Chen co-founded YouTube in 2005. As the company’s key technologist, Chen is credited with developing the company’s massive data centers and helping build YouTube into a premier entertainment destination and one of the most popular Web sites on the Internet today.
Business & Policy Honoree: Naren Gupta
Naren Gupta launched Nexus Venture Partners in 2006. Nexus invests in innovative companies to serve both the Indian and the global markets. Prior to launching Nexus, Gupta co-founded Integrated Systems Inc (ISI), a leading embedded software company. Gupta serves on the boards Tibco Software, Red Hat Inc., Silicon Valley Community Foundation and several privately held companies. He is an active advisor to entrepreneurs as well as large company CEOs worldwide.
Education Honoree: SF Hep B Free
The SF Hep B Free campaign has put San Francisco at the forefront of the nation in fighting chronic hepatitis B, a disease that disproportionately affects Asian Pacific Islanders. It is the largest and most intensive healthcare campaign for Asian Pacific Islanders in the US.
The Annual Dinner is ASNC’s most prestigious event and largest fundraiser of the year. It is attended by over 350 distinguished guests including, leaders in business and civic affairs, academia, the diplomatic corps, and the media. Featured speakers of past Annual Dinners have included The Honorable Madeleine Albright; US Senator Dianne Feinstein; Mayor Gavin Newsom; George Lucas, director and founder of LucasFilm; Peter Darbee, President, CEO and Chairman of PG&E; Nobel Laureate and Secretary of Energy Steven Chu; Proceeds generated at the Eighth Annual Dinner will help fund ASNC’s new and ongoing programs.
